Idia Renaissance draws her link from Queen Idia, the mother of Oba Esigie, a king in Old Benin Empire. Queen Idia is arguably the most celebrated heroine in the history of Benin kingdom. She alone holds the distinction of being the first woman to have led Benin soldiers to war in order to protect the kingdom over which her son, Esigie reigned, from external aggression. She returned victorious. She has since symbolized dignifies womanhood and courage in daunting circumstances. It is from this history that Idia Renaissance draws inspiration, moral energy and cultural originality to prosecute its campaign for cultural reawakening.
